2007 - Founder's Year
A Year of Anniversaries

2007 marks the thirtieth year of our founding by Abbot Zenkai Taiun, and the tenth anniversary of the death of his teacher, Matsuoka-Roshi. It is also the year in which Zenkai Taiun was formally transmitted into the American Soto Zen lineage, in recognition of a lifetime of practice and service, and the efforts he has undertaken under the friendly and generous guidance of Seirin Barbara Kohn and Shohaku Okumura.
2007 is also be the year of dissemination of Matsuoka's writings, the first volume of which ("Kyosaku") is now published (click here to purchase). It is a major year for ASZC, not just as a year of memories and celebration, but as a year of growth. We have plans to improve our service and teaching offerings, formalize ties with our affiliates, and with the return of our abbot from a year of intensive travel in 2006, concentrate on our own practice development.
Please continue to show your support for ASZC during this exciting time, and watch these pages for exciting new developments. Please plan to attend the following functions:
- "Founder's Feast" Fall Fundraiser - November 18, 2007
- 2007 Annual Membership Meeting - December 16, 2007
- Make Your 2008 Pledge
