Zen Group of Chattanooga

Sunday from Noon to 2:00

Invitation to Zen Practice

Many of us have read books on Zen, tried meditation practice on our own, or have been looking for a Zen teacher.  We naturally have many questions.

*  What is self-realization or enlightenment?

*  Since Zen is non-theistic, what is the source of its moral teachings?

*  Is it important to study with a teacher?

*  How can I integrate Zen practice into my daily life?

Please join our group for weekly Zen practice and study.  In practicing zazen, you will have the opportunity to experience that which you have read about, to find strength in practicing alongside like-minded people, and to directly explore the heart of Zen practice for yourself.

Arthur Stovall, Sensei, Zen Priest and a senior teacher from the Atlanta Soto Zen Center, guides the group and provides Zen training.

There is no fee, however, donations are accepted.

What is Zazen?

Zazen is a particular kind of meditation, unique to Zen that forms the very heart of Zen practice.  Appropriate for beginners and experienced practitioners alike, basically zazen is the study of the self.

The great Zen Master Dogen said, "To study the Buddha Way is to study the self, to study the self is to forget the self, and to forget the self is to be enlightened by the ten thousand things." To be enlightened by the ten thousand things is to realize the unity of the self and the universe.

What do I need to bring?

Please wear loose comfortable clothing.  Meditation cushions are provided.
